Lands End - Porthcurno

Ganz im Südwesten von England, in der Nähe des Ortes Porthcurno befindet sich ein flacher Strand (Porthcurno Beach).  Von diesem Ort aus wurde das britisch Empire mit Unterwasserkabeln (für Telegrafie) erschlossen. 1970 wurde der Betrieb endgültig eingestellt. Übrig bleibt ein interessantes Museum zum Thema Telekommunikation wo die technische Ausrüstung aber auch die während dem 2. Weltkrieg gebauten Bunker besichtigt werden können. Sicher ein historischer Ort aber nicht nur! An Stelle von Kabeln für die Telegrafie sind nun Glasfaser Kabel für moderne digitale Kommunikation getreten. Und sie können 3x raten von wo diese Kabel ausgehen!

Telegraph signs at Porthcurno

In the southwest of England, near Porthcurno, there is a shallow beach (PorthcurnoBeach). From this location, the British Empire was connected with submarine cables (for telegraphy). In 1970 the company was finally closed. What remains is an interesting museum on the subject of telecommunications, where you can visit the technical equipment as well as the bunkers built during World War II. Certainly a historical place but not only! Instead of cables for telegraphy, fiber optic cables for modern digital communication have now entered. And you can guess 3x from where these cables go out!
