River Games Thun entwickelt. Da steckt viel Initiative und Arbeit dahinter. Ein
Merci an die Organisatoren! Für Kajaks wurde bei der Scherzligschleuse ein
spektakulärer Parcours aufgebaut. Kurz gesagt: Sehenswert!

Vor 50 Jahre wurde die «Muppet Show» zum erstem Mal und über
den Fernsehsender ITV ausgesendet. Die «Muppets» mit Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie
Bear und all ihren Kollegen und Kolleginnen muss ich nicht vorstellen sie sind
immer noch präsent. In der ersten Sendung wurde ein Song mit dem nichts
sagenden Text «Manah Manah» vorgestellt. Der Song ist immer noch aktuell, wenn
oft auch mit anderen Bildern…
Prominent sind sie auch geworden, die Muppets: Kermit und
Miss Piggy waren sogar am Krönungskonzert von König Charles III. eingeladen!

Fifty years
ago, *The Muppet Show* was broadcast for the first time on ITV. I don’t need to
introduce the Muppets – Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and all their friends –
as they’re still very much in the public eye. In the very first episode, a song
with the nonsensical lyrics ‘Manah Manah’ was featured. The song is still
popular today, though often accompanied by different visuals…
The Muppets
have also become celebrities: Kermit and Miss Piggy were even invited to King
Charles III’s coronation concert! That really says something!

télévision ITV. Je n’ai pas besoin de vous présenter les « Muppets », avec
Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear et tous leurs collègues : ils sont toujours là.
Lors de la première émission, une chanson aux paroles incohérentes, « Manah
Manah », a été présentée. Cette chanson est toujours d’actualité, même si elle
est souvent accompagnée d’autres images…
Les Muppets
sont également devenus des célébrités : Kermit et Miss Piggy ont même été
invités au concert du couronnement du roi Charles III ! Ça veut dire beaucoup !
Vom 28. August bis zum 6. September findet in Thun die
Oberländische Herbstausstellung (kurz OHA) statt. Dabei ist auch CASALP die
Sortenorganisation Berner Alpprodukte. Vor Ort können die am besten prämierten
Berner Alp- und Hobelkäse degustiert und gekauft werden. Mit grossen Bildern
werden die Alpbetriebe und deren Familien betrieben vorgestellt. Und plötzlich
erkennt man die Alpen (wo der Alpkäse hergestellt wird) und manchmal auch die
Familien, die die Alp während der Sömmerung der Kühe betreiben. Jetzt weiss ich
woher mein Käse kommt!
Es fällt auf, wie nahe die Besten untereinander sind. Der
Hobelkäse mit Rang 1 weist 100 Punkte auf. Der zweitrangierte weist 99 Punkte
auf.
Einen Unterschied zwischen den beiden Hobelkäsen konnte ich
(als Laie) nicht feststellen. Beide sind schlichtweg fantastisch!

August to 6 September, the Oberländische Herbstausstellung (OHA for short)
takes place in Thun. CASALP, the Bernese Alpine Products Association, also
takes part. Visitors can taste and buy the award-winning Bernese Alpine and
Hobelkäse cheeses at the event. Large photographs showcase the alpine farms and
the families who run them. And suddenly you recognise the alpine pastures
(where the alpine cheese is made) and sometimes even the families who run the
alp during the cows’ summer grazing season. Now I know where my cheese comes
from!
It’s
striking how close the top-ranked cheeses are to one another. The Hobelkäse in
first place scored 100 points. The runner-up scored 99 points.
As a
layman, I couldn’t tell the difference between the two sliced cheeses. Both are simply fantastic!
Du 28 août
au 6 septembre se tient à Thoune l'Exposition d'automne de l'Oberland (OHA).
CASALP, l'organisation des produits d'alpage bernois, y est également présente.
Sur place, il est possible de déguster et d'acheter les fromages d'alpage et
les fromages râpés bernois les mieux primés. De grandes photos présentent les
exploitations d'alpage et les familles qui les gèrent. Et soudain, on reconnaît
les alpages (où le fromage d’alpage est fabriqué) et parfois même les familles
qui exploitent l’alpage pendant l’estivage des vaches. Maintenant, je sais d’où
vient mon fromage !
On remarque
à quel point les meilleurs sont proches les uns des autres. Le fromage à la
meule, classé n° 1, totalise 100 points. Celui classé deuxième en totalise 99.
En tant que
amateur, je n’ai pas pu constater de différence entre ces deux fromages à
trancher. Ils sont tout simplement fantastiques tous les deux !
Gummi- oder Quietschenten sind ikonische Wasserspielzeuge und
zwar für Gross und Klein. Das beweisen Videos aus der Sesamstrasse und dem
Komiker Loriot ("Die Herren im Bad").
Eine grosse Sammlung an Gummienten finden Sie – Im Strandbad
Thun! Offenbar wird diese Sammlung durch Badegäste laufend ergänzt. Jede Ente
ist ein sehenswert und lädt zum Schmunzeln ein. Ein Besuch im Schwimmbad lohnt
sich alleweil!
P.S.: Meiner Meinung nach fehlt noch ein bestimmtes Exemplar.
Sobald ich dieses Exemplar finde, lasse ich es dieser Sammlung zukommen.

Sammlung im Strandbad Thun, Colletion at the Thun Lido
Rubber
ducks and squeaky ducks are iconic water toys for young and old alike. This is
demonstrated by videos from *Sesame Street* and the comedian Loriot ("Die Herren im Bad".
You’ll find
a huge collection of rubber ducks at the Thun Lido! Apparently, this collection
is constantly being added to by visitors. Every duck is a sight to behold and
is sure to bring a smile to your face. A visit to the swimming pool is
definitely worth it!
P.S.: In my
opinion, there’s still one particular duck missing. As soon as I find it, I’ll
add it to this collection. Details to follow…
Les canards
en caoutchouc ou qui couinent sont des jouets aquatiques emblématiques, tant
pour les petits que pour les grands. Les vidéos de « Sesamstrasse » et de
l'humoriste Loriot ("Die Herren im Bad") en sont la preuve.
Vous
trouverez une grande collection de canards en caoutchouc… à la piscine de Thun
! Apparemment, cette collection est constamment enrichie par les baigneurs.
Chaque canard vaut le détour et vous fera sourire. Une visite à la piscine vaut
vraiment le coup !

mon avis, il manque encore un exemplaire en particulier. Dès que je l’aurai
trouvé, je l’ajouterai à cette collection. Plus de détails à suivre…
Kaum zu glauben, das gibt es noch! Ein kleines Varieté mit Vorstellungen unter freiem Himmel! «Varieté Pavé» ist der Name des sympathischen Unternehmens mit dem Programm «Lunautica» – Einer Reise mit dem U-Boot zum Mond!
Die Vorstellung hat mich und das gesamte Publikum total begeistert. Meine Empfehlung: Unbedingt besuchen! Programm und Termine sind hier zu finden.
It’s hard to believe such a show still exists! A small variety theatre with open-air performances! ‘Varieté Pavé’ is the name of this charming company, which presents the show ‘Lunautica’ – a journey to the moon in a submarine!
The performance completely captivated me and the entire audience. My recommendation: you absolutely must go and see it! You can find the programme and dates here.

‘Meinkleiner grüner Kaktus’ is a German song composed by Bert Reisfeld and Rolf
Marbot. It became famous thanks to the vocal ensemble ‘Comedian Harmonists’.
Well, we actually have a little cactus like that flowering at home. And it only
lasts for a very short time! Just over a day. And pollination ‘has’ to take
place within that short time. In short: it worked!
Am 15. und 16. August zeigten Fotografinnen und
Fotografen vom Fotoclub Thun anhand von Einzelfotos und Serien einen Ausschnitt
aus ihrem fotografischen Schaffen. Ort der Ausstellung der Aarequai von Thun.
On 15 and
16 August, photographers from the Thun Photography Club exhibited a selection
of their work, comprising individual photographs and series. The
exhibition was held on the Aarequai in Thun.
Alte Maschinen, besonders Dampfmaschinen, sollen eine Seele
haben. Ob dem so ist, darüber kann man stundenlang diskutieren. Fakt aber ist: Solche
Maschinen faszinieren Jung und Alt. Seien es die technischen Details dieser
Maschinen oder wie diese betrieben werden.
So auch die
Dampfmaschine des Dampfschiffes SAVOIE der Compagnie Générale de Navigation surle Lac Léman (CGN). Die Dampfmaschine aus dem Jahr 1914 wird wie damals
über den Maschinentelegrafen durch den Steuermann bzw. den zuständigen
Maschinisten bzw. Maschinistin gesteuert. Bugstrahlruder und andere Hilfsmittel
gibt es da nicht. Dazu braucht es erfahrene professionelle Spezialisten für die
zu fahrenden Manöver.Die nachfolgenden

machines, particularly steam engines, are said to have a soul. Whether this is
true is a matter that could be debated for hours. The fact remains, however,
that such machines fascinate young and old alike, whether it be the technical
details of these machines or the way they are operated.
This is
certainly true of the steam engine on the steamship SAVOIE, operated by the
Compagnie Générale de Navigation sur le Lac Léman (CGN). The steam engine,
built in 1914, is controlled – just as it was back then – via the engine
telegraph by the helmsman or the engineer on duty. There are no bow thrusters
or other auxiliary systems. This requires experienced professional specialists
to carry out the necessary manoeuvres.The following pictures show details of the steam engine, which is over
100 years old. The linked video shows how the steam engine is operated during a
docking manoeuvre.
Heute
Donnerstag beginnt das 50. Thunfest. Die Vorbereitungsarbeiten sind nahezu
abgeschlossen. Gleich geht's los mit den Festivitäten. Entsprechende
Sicherheitsvorkehrungen sind unabdingbar. Diese Lösung finde ich sehr sympathisch.
Im Notfall gehe ich ins Restaurant.
Today,
Thursday, the 50th Thunfest begins. The preparations are almost complete. The
festivities are about to get ready to go. Appropriate safety measures are
essential. I find this solution very appealing. If necessary, I’ll pop into a
restaurant.
Auf einen Zug zu warten kann schön langweilig sein. Besonders bei sommerlichen Temperaturen, wo es kein Schatten hat. Trifft man dann auf verrostete Geleise die nicht mehr benutzt werden (so genannte tote Geleise), stimmt die einem etwas nachdenklich. In meine Falle aber kam der Zug. Sogar pünktlich (wenn auch heillos überfüllt…).

Waiting for a train can be rather annoying, especially in summer heat when there’s no shade. And when you come across rusty tracks that are no longer in use (so-called ‘dead tracks’), it does make you think a bit. In my case, though, the train did turn up. It was even on time (albeit hopelessly overcrowded…).
Die Skisaison hat noch nicht begonnen, aber mein Skipass ist
bereits jetzt gültig! Höchste Zeit den Skipass auszutesten, wenn auch ohne
Skier. Dafür zu Fuss mit Bergschuhen. Ich bin nicht der Einzige der dies macht.
Es gibt einen wunderbaren Höhenweg/Wanderweg der vom Rinderberg (Zweisimmen)
zum Horneggli (Schönried) führt. Die Weiden (im Winter Skipisten) sind im
Sommer durch Kühe und Kälber (die vierbeinigen) belegt. Sie bewegen sich
gemächlicher als unsere Wintersportler…
Die meisten Skilifte/Bahnen sind im Sommer nicht in Betrieb;
ebenso sind die Beschneiungsanlagen ausser Betrieb und oft abgebaut. Sie wirken
im oft surrealistisch in dieser Berglandschaft. Besonders im Sommer. Im Winter
hat man sich daran gewöhnt.
Vom Horneggli kann man mit der Sesselbahn nach Schönried
fahren. Von dort besteht eine Zugsverbindung (der Montreux-Berner Oberland-Bahn)
nach Zweisimmen. Eine feine, perfekte Rundreise im Saanenland.
Die Bilder wurden mit einer analogen Kamera (Minox ML)
aufgenommen. Nach der
Entwicklung wurden die Negative eingescannt und finalisiert.

The skiseason hasn’t started yet, but my ski pass is already valid! It’s high time to
put the ski pass to the test, even if it’s without skis. Instead, on foot in
hiking boots. I’m not the only one doing this. There’s a wonderfulhigh-altitude trail leading from Rinderberg (Zweisimmen) to Horneggli
(Schönried). The pastures (which become ski slopes in winter) are occupied in
summer by cows and calves (the four-legged ones). They move at a more leisurely
pace than our winter sports enthusiasts…
Most ski
lifts and cable cars aren’t in operation in summer; likewise, the snow-making
systems are out of action and often dismantled. They often look rather surreal
against this mountain backdrop. Especially in summer. In winter, you’ve got
used to them.
From
Horneggli, you can take the chairlift down to Schönried. From there, there’s a
train service (the Montreux-Berner Oberland Railway) to Zweisimmen. A lovely,
perfect round trip in the Saanenland.
The
photographs were taken with an analogue camera (Minox ML). After development,
the negatives were scanned and finalised.
