Sie haben richtig gelesen, 15-mal wird dieser Märchenfilm aus dem Jahr 1973 auf den öffentlich-rechtlichen deutsch sprachigen Fernsehkanälen gesendet. Das sollte eigentlich ausreichen. (Hinzu kommen noch etliche Streamingdienste und DVDs...)

Im englischsprachigen Raum gibt es ähnliche/vergleichbare Geschichten, welche über die Festtage gesendet werden (z.B.: Dinner for One). 

Aber da gibt es noch etwas ganz Spezielles: Die Novelle «The Shepherd» von Frederick Forsyth. Sie wird am Heilig Abend auf diversen Radiostationen gesendet. Unter anderem auch von CBC Radio. Die Novelle (vorgelesen von Alan Maitland) findet sich ebenfalls auf YouTube. 

Zur Handlung: Am Heiligabend 1957 soll ein junger britischer Kampfpilot mit seiner DH.100 Vampire vom Militär Flughafen Celle zum Stützpunkt RAF Lakenheath fliegen. Über der Nordsee fallen die Navigationsinstrumente und sein Funk aus. Als dann noch Nebel aufzieht, wird ihm klar, dass er keine Möglichkeit hat, irgendwo zu landen… 

Um „The Shepherd“ zu hören, schalten Sie am Freitag, den 23. Dezember um 18:30 Uhr (19:00 Uhr in Neufundland) CBC Radio 1 ein, oder streamen Sie live oder auf Abruf auf CBC Listen oder der CBC Listen App. Eine ältere Version ist auf YouTube zu finden. Dort findet man auch einen Trickfilm (mit Open Source Tools produziert) oder eine Simulation des Flugs mit dem Microsoft Flug Simulator.

You read correctly, 15 times this fairy tale film from 1973 is broadcast on the public German-language television channels. That should actually be enough. (In addition, there are several streaming services and DVDs).

In the English-speaking world, there are similar/comparable stories that are broadcast over the festive season (e.g.: Dinner for One). 

But there is something very special: the novel "The Shepherd" by Frederick Forsyth. It will be broadcast on various radio stations on Christmas Eve. Among them is CBC Radio. The novella (read by Alan Maitland) can also be found on YouTube. 

The plot: On Christmas Eve 1957, a young British fighter pilot is to fly his DH.100 Vampire from Celle military airport to RAF Lakenheath base. Over the North Sea, the navigation instruments and his radio fail. When fog rolls in, he realises that he has no chance of landing anywhere...

Lego bzw. die Legobausteine der Firma "The LEGO Group" (Eigenschreibweise: LEGO) begleitet viele Kinder durch ihre Kindheit. Ja sogar Erwachsene spielen immer noch mit diesen bunten Bausteinen. Das Sortiment wird immer noch laufend erweitert und ergänzt. Die Rückwärtskompatibilität zu den älteren Bausteinen ist immer gewährleistet. So kommt es vor, dass der Enkel mit den Legobausteinen seines Grossvaters bzw. seiner Grossmutter spielt. Und manchmal spielen beide (Enkel/Enkelin und Grossvater/Grossmutter) zusammen. Der Kreativität sind keine Grenzen gesetzt. Kurz gesagt: Lego beginnt im Kopf!

Lego or the Lego bricks of the company "The LEGO Group" (proper spelling: LEGO) accompanies many children through their childhood. Yes even adults still play with these colorful building blocks. The portfolio is still constantly being expanded and supplemented. The backwards compatibility to the older building blocks is always guaranteed. So it happens that the grandson plays with the Lego bricks of his grandfather or grandmother. And sometimes both (grandson/granddaughter and grandfather/grandmother) play together. There are no limits to creativity. In short: Lego begins in the head!

Rendez-vous Bundesplatz

 Der Anlass “Rendez-vous Bundesplatz” gehört schon ins Jahresprogramm der Stadt Bern. Trotz anstehender Strommangellage wird auch in diesem Jahr diese Lichtshow auf dem Bundesplatz durchgeführt. Lichtshows liegen voll im Trend (ja sogar die Stadt Thun führt in diesem Jahr eine Lichtshow unter dem Motto „Thuner Wasserzauber“ durch).

Schon vor der Vorführung (sie finden jeweils um 19:00 Uhr, 20:00 Uhr und 21:00 Uhr statt) machen sich die Zuschauer auf den Weg zum Bundesplatz. Ein emsiges Kommen und Gehen zu einer Tageszeit das für eine Stadt wie Bern zu dieser Uhrzeit eher ungewöhnlich ist. 

Auch wenn die Lichtshow noch nicht begonnen hat, gibt es doch einiges zu sehen. Die ehrwürdigen Gebäude (Bundeshaus/Parlament, Nationalbank und Berner Kantonalbank) am Bundesplatz werden stilvoll/dezent angeleuchtet. Auch diese Gebäude sind an und für sich sehenswert.

The event "Rendez-vous Bundesplatz" is already part of the annual programme of the city of Bern. Despite the upcoming power shortage, this light show will be held on the Bundesplatz again this year. Light shows are very much in vogue (even the city of Thun is staging a light show this year under the motto "Thuner Wasserzauber").

Even before the show (they take place at 7pm, 8pm and 9pm respectively), spectators make their way to Bundesplatz. A bustling coming and going at a time of day that is rather unusual for a city like Bern at this hour. 

Even though the light show hasn't started yet, there is plenty to see. The venerable buildings (Bundeshaus/Parliament, National Bank and Berner Kantonalbank) on Bundesplatz are illuminated in a stylish/decent way. These buildings are also worth seeing in and of themselves.

Torf - Peat

Torf war vor gar nicht allzu langer Zeit ein gesuchter Brennstoff und wurde in vielen Mooren abgebaut. In der Zwischenzeit hat man den Wert von Mooren erkannt und schützt diese mit recht grossem Aufwand. 

Ein solches Hochmoor ist das Wachseldornmoos. Es befindet sich in den Gemeinden Wachseldorn und Buchholterberg. Es wurde 1978 durch den Regierungsrat des Kantons Bern Schutz gestellt und in das Verzeichnis der Naturschutzgebiete eingetragen. 

In der Zwischenzeit ist das Hochmoor zu einem beliebten Ausflugsgebiet geworden. Die Wege führen entlang dem Hochmoor und bieten eine herrliche Aussicht auf die Stockhornkette. Unterwegs trifft man Torfhütten an, die früher zu Lagerung/Trocknung des Torfes dienten. Heute findet man in ihnen Informationstafeln zum Thema Hochmoor und dem früheren Torfabbau. Bei den Torfhütten handelt es sich um Holzkonstruktionen mit Schindelbedachung. Holzverbindungen sind sehenswert. Einfach, robust und dauerhaft. Kurz gesagt: Handwerkskunst!

Not so long ago, peat was a sought-after fuel and was mined in many peat bogs. In the meantime, the value of peatlands has been recognized and they are protected with quite a lot of effort. 

The Wachseldornmoos is such a high moor. It is located in the municipalities of Wachseldorn and Buchholterberg. It was protected in 1978 by the government of the canton of Bern and entered in the register of nature reserves. 

In the meantime, the raised bog has become a popular excursion area. The paths lead along the high moor and offer a magnificent view of the Stockhorn chain. On the way you will come across peat huts, which used to be used for storing/drying the peat. Today you will find information boards about the high moor and the former peat cutting. The peat huts are wooden constructions with shingle roofing. Wooden joints are worth seeing. Simple, robust and durable. In short, craftsmanship!

Ein Alphorn ist nicht gerade ein kleines Instrument. Obschon es sich zerlegen lässt, so ist es auch beim Transport recht sperrig. Wird es vom Spieler oder der Spielerin zum Klingen gebracht, so macht sich sein Klang weitherum bemerkbar. Mann/Frau bleibt stehen und hört den Naturtönen zu. Für viele ein magischer Moment.

An alphorn is not really a small instrument. Although it can be disassembled, it is quite bulky when transported. When the player starts to play it, its sound is recognized from far away. Man/woman stops and listens to the natural sounds. For many, a magical moment.

 Alle Jahre wieder findet im Herbst in Thun der «Ausschiesset» statt (genau am vierten Sonntag im Monat September). Es ist der Saisonabschluss der Thuner Schützenvereine aber auch der Thuner Kadetten. Eine Jugendorganisation mit polysportiven Aktivitäten. Der Höhepunkt ist das Gessler Schiessen vom Dienstag wo Kadetten und Kadettinnen mit historischen Armbrüsten auf ein von Hand gemaltes Bild schiessen. Der beste Schütze (in diesem Jahr war es eine Schützin) darf das Bild behalten. Eine äusserst begehrte Trophäe!

Bevor das Fest aber beginnen kann, sind diverse Vorbereitungen zu treffen. Das traditionelle Karussell wird am Samstag vor dem Fest (welches am Sonntag beginnt) aufgebaut. Der Scheibenstand auch «Täntsch» genannt wird jedes Jahr vom Kader der Thuner Kadetten verziert. Nach dem Fest (am Mittwoch) wird die Verzierung abgebaut und entsorgt. Der Ausschiesset ist vorbei.

Every year in autumn the "Ausschiesset" takes place in Thun (exactly on the fourth Sunday in September). It is the end of the season of the Thun Rifle Clubs but also of the Thun Cadets a youth organization with polysportive activities. The highlight is the Gessler Shooting on Tuesday where cadets and female cadets shoot with historical crossbows at a hand-painted picture. The best shooter (this year it was a female shooter) gets to keep the painting. An extremely treasured trophy!

But before the festival can begin, there are various preparations to be made. The traditional carousel is set up on Saturday before the festival (which starts on Sunday). The target stands also called "Täntsch" is decorated every year by the cadre of the Thun Cadets. After the festival (on Wednesday) the decoration is dismantled and disposed of. The "Ausschiesset" is over.
