Der Film der aus der Kälte kam – Nein nicht der Roman von John le Carré bzw. der Film mit Richard Burton. Es geht um einen Film: Und zwar um den chromogenen Schwarz/Weiss Film Kodak BW400CN. Dieser wurde 10 Jahre in der Tiefkühltruhe gelagert. Nun habe ich diesen Film mit einer Canon EOS 600 ausgerüstet mit einem 35mm Objektiv belichtet. Chromogene Filme können mit dem standardisierten C-41 Prozess entwickelt werden. So weit so gut, aber wie geht es weiter mit den entwickelten Negativen? Die Lösung: Das Fotolabor «développederrière» entwickelt und scannt Filme. Die eingescannten Negative können via Internet runtergeladen werden. Einfach, schnell und praktisch.

Die ersten Bilder / The first pictures: 

The film that came from the cold – no, not the novel by John le Carré or the film starring Richard Burton. I’m talking about a film: specifically, the KodakBW400CN chromogenic black-and-white film. It had been stored in the deep freeze for 10 years. I’ve now exposed this film using a Canon EOS 600 fitted with a 35mm lens. Chromogenic films can be developed using the standardised C-41process. So far, so good, but what happens next with the developed negatives? The solution: the photo lab ‘développe derrière’ develops and scans films. The scanned negatives can be downloaded via the internet. Simple, quick and practical.

Es war einmal ein Fussballclub in einer Stadt im Berner Oberland. Nach 128 Jahr mit vielen Hochs und Tiefs wurde der FC Thun Schweizermeister für die Saison 2025/2026. Ein Club mit einem bescheidenen Budget aber viel Kraft, Energie und Teamgeist macht das Undenkbare möglich. Das macht diesen Meistertitel so sympathisch. Herzliche Gratulation!

Once upon a time, there was a soccer club in a town in the Bernese Oberland. After 128 years marked by many ups and downs, FC Thun became Swiss champions for the 2025/2026 season. A club with a modest budget but plenty of strength, energy, and team spirit made the impossible possible. That’s what makes this championship title so endearing. Congratulations!

Il était une fois un club de football dans une ville de l'Oberland bernois. Après 128 ans marqués par de nombreux hauts et bas, le FC Thoune a remporté le titre de champion de Suisse pour la saison 2025/2026. Un club au budget modeste, mais doté de beaucoup de force, d'énergie et d'esprit d'équipe, a rendu possible l'impossible. C'est ce qui rend ce titre de champion si attachant. Toutes nos félicitations !

A humorous advert in a hairdresser’s window. The text is ambiguous here: ‘getting under the hood’ means either:

• Getting under the hair-drying hood
• Getting married

Nachbarin / Neighbour / Voisine

Darf ich vorstellen: Frau Amsel, unsere neue Nachbarin. Sie hat sich entschieden ihr Nest unter unserem Schlafzimmerfenster im Aprikosen Spalier zu bauen. Ein Baubewilligung braucht sie dazu nicht. Sie ist herzlich willkommen. Innert wenigen hat Frau Amsel ihr Nest gebaut.

Es befinden sich bereits 4 Eier in ihrem Nest. Wie ich herausgefunden habe, beginnt das eigentliche Ausbrüten des Geleges ab dem 4 Ei. Also nur noch eine Frage der Zeit!  (Begründet wird dies dadurch, dass die jungen Amseln möglichst gleichzeitig ausschlüpfen. Somit können sie durch ihre Vogeleltern auch gefüttert werden.) 

Das Nest der Amsel / The blackbird's nest / Le nid du merle

May I introduce Mrs Blackbird, our new neighbour. She has decided to build her nest in the apricot espalier beneath our bedroom window. She doesn’t need planning permission for that. She is very welcome. Mrs Blackbird built her nest in no time at all.

There are already four eggs in her nest. As I’ve found out, the actual breeding process begins with the fourth egg. So it’s only a matter of time!  (The reason for this is that the young blackbirds hatch as close to the same time as possible. That way, their parents can feed them all at once.)

Je vous prie de bien vouloir accueillir Mme Merle, notre nouvelle voisine. Elle a décidé de construire son nid sous la fenêtre de notre chambre, dans le treillis d'abricotiers. Elle n'a pas besoin de permis de construire pour cela. Elle est la bienvenue. En quelques jours, Mme Merle a construit son nid.

Il y a déjà 4 œufs dans son nid. D'après ce que j'ai appris, l'incubation proprement dite commence à partir du 4e œuf. Ce n'est donc plus qu'une question de temps !  (Cela s'explique par le fait que les jeunes merles doivent éclore le plus simultanément possible. Ainsi, leurs parents peuvent les nourrir tous en même temps.)

Dumm gelaufen. Unterwegs in Freiburg/Fribourg nur mit einem Objektiv von 35mm Brennweite. Und ich treffe diesen imposanten Bau an (Theater Equilibre) an. Diesen imposanten bau auf Film zu «bannen» eine gar nicht so einfache Aufgabe. Verlassen wir die Komfortzone und nehmen Stürzende Linien und schiefe Horizonte in Kauf. Das Resultat ist gar nicht so übel.

That didn't work out well. Out and about in Freiburg/Fribourg with just a 35mm lens. And I come across this imposing building (Theatre Equilibre). Capturing this imposing building on film is no easy task. Let's step out of our comfort zone and accept converging lines and slanted horizons. The result isn't that bad.
