Es braucht Nebel, Bise (kalter, oft trockener Nordost- bis Nordwind, der durch das Schweizer Mittelland weht) und Temperaturen um den Gefrierpunkt. Meistens trifft diese Kombination nicht oft auf. Tritt dieser Fall dann ein, so vereisen die Fahrbahnen aber auch Bäume, Büsche, Zäune etc. Ein solcher Fall trat am 24. Und 25. Dezember 2025 in der Gegend von Sumiswald auf. Genauer um die Gegend des Grunbirrenlehn. Auf einem relativ eng begrenzten Raum war die Strasse vereist und nahezu unbefahrbar. Bäume, Sträucher, Zäune etc. waren mit einem dicken Eispanzer überzogen. Die starke Bise weht unangenehm stark.

Santa drives Harley...

Sankt Nikolaus fährt Harley Davidson. Kennen wir doch? Nein! Doch! Oh! Würde Louis de Funès sagen. Schwere Jungs (und auch Damen auf ihren Harleys gibt es viele. Diese hier haben das Herz auf dem rechten Fleck. Und das seit einigen Jahren. Ihre Bikes sind wunderschön verziert. Biker und Bikerinnen sind selber als Chläuse verkleidet und haben offenbar selber einen Riesen Spass daran. Mit ihren Fahrzeugen gibt es ein Korso durch die Altstadt von Thun (wo der Geruch aber auch der Sound der Maschinen herrlich schön zur Geltung kommt).

Und warum der ganze Kokolores? Er dienst einem gemeinnützigen Zweck (Der Erlös des Anlasses geht an soziale Organisationen, wie beispielsweise das Chindernetz Bern für das Märchenprojekt in der Kinderklinik am Inselspital Bern oder an die Schweizerische Muskelgesellschaft). Seit Jahren verfolge ich diesen Anlass und stelle immer wieder fest wie viel Freude hier bereitet wird. Kaum hört man das rattern und knattern der schweren (und manchmal auch leichten) Maschinen, huscht ein kleines aber feines Lächeln über die Gesichter der grossen und kleinen Zuschauer. Born to be Wild (Film: Easy Rider, Band: Steppenwolf)! Auch das ist Advents Zeit!

Small and funny

Saint Nicholas rides a Harley Davidson. We know that, right? No! Of course! Oh! Louis de Funès would say. Tough guys (and there are also lots of ladies on their Harleys). These guys have their hearts in the right place. And have done for several years. Their bikes are beautifully decorated. The bikers are dressed up as Santa Claus and obviously have a lot of fun doing it. They ride their bikes in a parade through the old town of Thun (where the smell and sound of the machines really come into their own).

And why all this fuss? It serves a charitable purpose (the proceeds from the event go to social organisations such as Chindernetz Bern for the fairy tale project in the children's clinic at Inselspital Bern or the Swiss Muscular Society). I have been following this event for years and always notice how much joy it brings. As soon as you hear the rattling and clattering of the heavy (and sometimes light) machines, a small but sweet smile spreads across the faces of spectators young and old. Born to be Wild (film: Easy Rider, band: Steppenwolf)! That's what Advent is all about!

Witzig dieses Gefahrensignal? Interessant ist aber auch das Gerät auf dem dieses «Gefahrensignal» aufgestellt ist. Es handelt sich hier um ein sogenanntes Kofferradio. Als Kofferradios bezeichnete man früher Radios, die überall mitgenommen werden konnten. Überall ist heutzutage etwas übertrieben, damals aber war so ein Gerät schon etwas tolles. Auf der Skala des Gerätes sind keine Frequenzen, sondern Wellenlängen angegeben. Rechnet man diese Wellenlänge in Frequenzen um, so stellt man fest, dass es sich um einen Empfänger für Mittel- und Kurzwelle handelt. Unter anderem ist auf der Skala auch der ehemalige Schweizerische Landessender Beromünster aufgeführt (seine letzte Sendefrequenz war 531 kHz).

Sucht man weitere Infos, so hilft (im Moment) KI-basierte Suche nicht viel weiter. Eine gute Quelle ist das Radiomuseum welches im Internet eine eigene Homepage betreibt. Folgende Angaben sind hier verfügbar:

der wird seelig. Phising Attacken werden immer tolldreister. Hier ging aber die Phantasie der Angreifer komplett durch. Dass ein Bundesamt mir die Mehrwertsteuer rückerstatten will, sorgt schon für allgemeine Heiterkeit.

Illuminated architecture

Die Architektur von Sport- und Wettkampfhallen sind, meiner Meinung nach, oft eher unauffällig. Nicht so beim Sporthallenkomplex Weissenstein, der besonders bei Nacht einem sofort ins Auge sticht.

Zibelemärit

Am vierten Montag im November findet in der Stadt Bern der «Zibelemärit» ein traditionelles Volksfest statt. Bereits früh am Morgen werden die Marktstände aufgebaut. Insider besuchen den Markt bereit vor 6 Uhr. Um diese Zeit hat es etwas weniger Leute auf dem Markt.

Neben den traditionellen Zöpfen geflochten aus Zwiebeln und Knoblauch wird Käse- und Zwiebelkuchen und natürlich Glühwein angeboten. Für die anstehende Konfettischlacht wird ebenfalls das notwendige «Rüstzeug» angeboten.

Ein Streifzug über den Markt lohnt sich allemal. Voraussetzung Mann/Frau hat Zeit.

 

On the fourth Monday in November, the city of Bern hosts the Zibelemärit (onion market), a traditional folk festival. The market stands are set up early in the morning. Insiders visit the market before 6 a.m., when there are fewer people around.

In addition to traditional braids made from onions and garlic, cheese and onion cakes and, of course, mulled wine are on offer. The necessary ‘equipment’ for the upcoming confetti battle is also available.

A stroll through the market is definitely worthwhile, provided you have the time.

 

Le quatrième lundi de novembre, la ville de Berne accueille le « Zibelemärit » (marché aux oignons), une fête populaire traditionnelle. Les stands sont installés tôt le matin. Les connaisseurs se rendent au marché avant 6 heures, car il y a alors moins de monde.

Outre les tresses traditionnelles tressées à partir d'oignons et d'ail, on y trouve des tartes au fromage et aux oignons et, bien sûr, du vin chaud. Le « matériel » nécessaire à la bataille de confettis à venir est également proposé.

Une visite du marché vaut vraiment le détour. À condition d'avoir le temps, bien sûr.
