Hochwasser / Flooding?

Die beliebte App von Aare-Schwimmern, meldet gewaltige Wassermengen. Schauen wir doch mal in der Realität nach, warum und wieso dem so ist. In Thun gibt es zwei Schleusen und ein Wehr des Kraftwerks Thun. Die Schleusen dienen zur Regulierung des Seepegels bzw. der Abflussmengen. Zusätzlich gibt es gibt seit dem Jahr 2009 noch einen Entlastungsstollen der bei extremen Hochwassern zum Zuge kommt. (Dieser Stollen ist seit Montag, dem 28. Juli in Betrieb). 

Das Wehr gehört zum Laufwasserkraftwerk von Energie Thun. Damit wird das Wasser der Aare zur Energieerzeugung gestaut. Falls notwendig, fliesst überschüssige Wasser über dieses Wehr. Die Wetter Dienste kündigen schon seit einiger Zeit starke Niederschläge für das gesamte Einzugsgebiet des Thuner bzw. Brienzersees an. Eine Herausforderung für die Hydrologen von Bund und Kanton.

The popular app for Aare swimmers reports huge amounts of water. Let's take a look behind the scenes to see why this is the case. There are two locks and a weir belonging to the Thun power station in Thun. The locks are used to regulate the lake level and the amount of water flowing out. In addition, since 2009 there has been a relief tunnel that comes into play during extreme floods. (This tunnel has been in operation since Monday, 28 July). 

The weir belongs to the run-of-river power plant of Energie Thun. It is used to dam the water of the Aare for energy production. If necessary, excess water flows over this weir. The weather services have been forecasting heavy rainfall for the entire catchment area of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz for some time now. This poses a challenge for federal and cantonal hydrologists.
