Der Einsatz von «alten» Objektiven an spiegellosen Kameras ist sehr interessant. In meinem Falle kombiniere ich Nikon und Konica Macro Objektive mit Sony Nex Kameras. Dazu verwende ich Objektiv Adapter der Firma Fotga.

Bei den Sony Nex Kameras (die mit einem APS-C Sensor ausgerüstet sind) resultiert daraus ein Crop Faktor von 1.5. Da die beiden Macro Objektive eine Brennweite von 55mm (bezogen auf das Film- bzw. Vollformat der Kameras) aufweisen, resultiert daraus ein Äquivalent (für das APS-C Format) von 82.5mm. Eine Interessante Brennweite für Nah- bzw. Macro Aufnahmen.

Das Scharfstellen mit solchen Objektiven erfolgt mittels «Fokus-Peaking». Fokus-Peaking basiert auf dem Prinzip, dass Bereiche mit der höchsten Schärfe auch einen hohen Kontrast ausweisen. Diese Bereiche werden auf dem Display von Kameras mit Live-View Modus angezeigt. Die scharfen Kontrastreichen Bereiche des zu fotografierenden Bildes werden mittels einer auffälligen Farbe angezeigt

Zum Fotografieren gehört, ehrlicherweise auch etwas Glück und der richtige Zeitpunkt. Da die ganze Ausrüstung (Kamera, Objektiv und Adapter) leicht und handlich ist, ist sie allzeit bereit für Aufnahmen im Garten.

N.B.: Beim Nikon Objektiv handelt es sich um ein Nikkor Micro 55mm f3.5. Es wurde zwischen 1977 und 1979 produziert. Damaliger Listenpreis in den war US$ 187.-. Für die damalige Zeit ein stolzer Preis!

The use of ‘old’ lenses on mirrorless cameras is very interesting. In my case, I combine Nikon and Konica Macro lenses with Sony Nex cameras. For this I use lensadapters from the company Fotga.

With the Sony Nex cameras (which are equipped with an APS-C sensor) this results in a crop factor of 1.5. As the two Macro lenses have a focal length of 55mm (in relation to the film or full format of the cameras), this results in an equivalent (for the APS-C format) of 82.5mm. An interesting focal length for close-up or macro shots.

Focusing with such lenses is done by means of ‘focus peaking’. Focus peaking is based on the principle that areas with the highest sharpness also show a high contrast. These areas are shown on the display of cameras with live view mode. The sharp, high-contrast areas of the image to be photographed are indicated by a striking colour

To be honest, photography also requires a bit of luck and the right timing. As the entire equipment (camera, lens and adapter) is light and handy, it is always ready for taking pictures in the garden.

N.B.: The Nikon lens is a Nikkor Micro 55mm f3.5, which was produced between 1977 and 1979. The list price at the time was US$ 187. A proud price for that time!

Vor dem Gebäude des Bundesamtes für Umwelt stehen zwei Plastiken. Ist das Wetter schlecht, so gibt es immer wieder Spaßvögel die, die die Figuren mit einer Kopfbedeckung versehen. Diese bleiben dort für einige Tage, bis irgend so ein ordnungsliebender Beamter für Ordnung sorgt. Kürzlich gab es in der Gegend etwas Schnee. Ja und kalt war es auch. Prompt erhielten die Figuren neue Kopfbedeckungen. Diese stehen den beiden gar nicht so übel. Nicht? Interessant an diesen Figuren ist die Beleuchtung im Laufe des Tages. Zu jeder Stunde ändert sich das Tageslicht. Ein ideales Foto Sujet. Voraussetzung; Mann hat den Photoapparat immer dabei!

In front of the building of the Federal Office for the Environment there are two sculptures. If the weather is bad, there are always jokesters who cover the figures with headgear. These remain there for some days, until some order-loving official takes care of order. Recently there was some snow in the area. Yes, and it was cold too. Promptly the figures received new headgear. These do not look so bad to the two at all. Didn't they? Interesting about these figures is the lighting during the day. Daylight changes every hour. An ideal photo subject. Precondition: You always have the camera with you! 

Retrofit - glass from the past

In meinem Fundus befinden sich einige interessante alte Hexanon Objektive der Firma Konica. Diese wollte ich gerne an einer digitalen Kamera verwenden. Das Problem: Das Auflagemass dieser Objektive beträgt nur 40.5mm. Zuwenig um an den gängigsten Vollformat Kameras  zu betreiben. Eine Alternative sind Systemkameras mit kleinem Auflagemass. Doch auch hier heisst es aufpassen: Der Crop Faktor oder Formatfaktor (grösse des Sensors) stellt hier einen weiteren Stolperstein dar. Bei einem Crop Faktor von 2 wird aus einem 50mm Vollformat „Normal“ Objektiv ein Portrait Objektiv. Noch schlimmer wird es mit den Weitwinkelobjektiven: Aus einem 24mm Weitwinkelobjektiv wird ein Normalobjektiv. Darum suchte ich eine Systemkamera mit einem möglichst kleinen Crop Faktor (und zu einem günstige Preis). Gefunden habe ich eine SONY NEX5 Kamera (Auflagemass 18mm). Zusätzlich kaufte ich einen entsprechenden Adapter für die Hexanon Objektive. Das Fokussieren und Abblenden erfolgt nach alter Väter Sitte; nämlich manuell! Mit der Folge, dass die Anzahl der gemachten Bilder drastisch sinkt. Alles braucht halt seine Zeit. Andererseits kann nun die Schärfentiefe wieder subtil kontrolliert werden. Aber auch das benötigt Zeit.

Fazit: Es macht Spass die alten Objektive wieder verwenden zu können.

In my collection ther are some interesting old Hexanon lenses of the Konica company. I wanted to use these lenses on a digital camera. The problem: The flange focal distance is only 40.5mm. Not enough to operate on the most common full-frame cameras. As an alternative there are system cameras around, with a smaller flange focal distance. However you have to be careful: The Crop factor (size of the sensor) represents here another stumbling block. With a Crop factor of 2, a 50mm full format "normal" lens becomes a portrait lens (equivalent to a 100mm lens on a full frame camera). It gets even worse with the wide-angle lenses! A 24mm wide-angle lens becomes to a normal lens. That's why I was looking for a system camera with as small a crop factor (and at a reasonable price). I found a SONY NEX5 camera (flange back distance - 18mm). In addition, I bought a corresponding adapter for the Hexanon lenses. Focusing and stopping down is done old-style: means manually! As a result, the number of pictures taken drops drastically. Everything needs his time. On the other hand, the depth of field can now be subtly controlled again. But that too takes time. Conclusion: It's fun to be able to use the old lenses again.
