Vor fünf Jahren, genau am 16. März 2020, rief der Bundesrat aufgrund der laufenden Corona-Pandemie den Notstand für die ganze Schweiz aus. Was danach folgt, ist den meisten bestens bekannt. Können, wollen wir uns aber an die einzelnen Details erinnern? Immerhin sind bereits fünf Jahre verstrichen. Einige Bilder bleiben mir aber immer gegenwärtig.

Es sind diese aus dem damaligen Blog Eintrag (Link) und einem Bild welches ich am 12. März 2020 aus der Männlichen Bahn machte.

Zu diesem Zeitpunkt waren die ersten Skigebiete in der Schweiz (und Europa) bereits geschlossen. Die Wolke in der Form einer Möwe begleitet mit seit diesem Tag.

Ein weiteres Tier begleitet mich (seit meiner Jugendzeit) aber noch länger. Es ist die Schwarze Spinne. Eine Novelle von Jeremias Gotthelf das Thema Pandemie auf eine erschreckend präzise Art behandelt. Auch das war damals (und heute) ein wichtiges Thema.

 

Five years ago, on 16 March 2020 to be precise, the Federal Council declared a state of emergency for the whole of Switzerland due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Most people are very well aware of what followed. But can we, or do we want to, remember the individual details? After all, five years have already passed. But some images will always stay with me.

These are from the blog entry at the time (Link) and a picture I took from the Männlichen cable car on 12 March 2020.

At that time, the first ski resorts in Switzerland (and Europe) were already closed. The cloud in the shape of a seagull has been with me since that day.

But another animal has been with me (since my youth) for even longer. It is the blackspider. A novella by Jeremias Gotthelf that deals with the subject of the pandemic in a frighteningly precise way. This was also an important topic back then (and today)

 

 

Il y a cinq ans, le 16 mars 2020 précisément, le Conseil fédéral déclarait l'état d'urgence pour toute la Suisse en raison de la pandémie de Corona en cours. La suite est bien connue de la plupart des gens. Mais pouvons-nous, voulons-nous nous souvenir des différents détails ? Après tout, cinq ans se sont déjà écoulés. Mais quelques images restent toujours présentes à mon esprit.

Il s'agit du billet de blog de l'époque (Link) et d'une photo que j'ai prise le 12 mars 2020 depuis le téléphérique du Männlichen.

À cette époque, les premiers domaines skiables de Suisse (et d'Europe) étaient déjà fermés. Le nuage en forme de mouette m'accompagne depuis ce jour.

Mais un autre animal m'accompagne (depuis ma jeunesse) depuis encore plus longtemps. C'est l'araignée noire. Une nouvelle de Jeremias Gotthelf qui traite du thème de la pandémie avec une précision effrayante. C'était également un thème important à l'époque (et aujourd'hui).

Sind es nun die Smartphones (auf die die Passanten immer starren) oder dieser teuflische Virus (benannt nach der Mexikanischen Biermarke), der die Behörden und Organisationen veranlasst Signale und Wegweiser auf den Boden zu schreiben?

Is it the smartphones (which pedestrians always stare at) or this devilish virus (named after the famous Mexican beer brand) which causes authorities and organizations to write signals and instructions on the floor?

Schwarze Spinne - Black Spyder

Vorgestern kam mir beim Aufräumen in meinem Büro dieses Buch mit der Novelle „Die Schwarze Spinne“ in die Hände. Warum zum T… gerade jetzt dacht ich mir, wo wir uns doch in einem Ausnahmezustand wegen diesem Corona Virus befinden. Ob es sich um Zufall oder Vorsehung handelt lassen wir nun mal beiseite. Tatsache ist, dass mich diese Novelle seit mehr als 40 Jahren begleitet. Sei es meine erste Literatur Arbeit, sei es die legendäre Freilichtaufführung von 1988 in Trachselwald (mit der Schauspielerin Barbara Sukowa), sei es der in der Novelle erwähnte runde Holztisch der sich im Restaurant Bären zu Sumiswald befindet (ich kann das Restaurant nur empfehlen) oder sei es meine Lebenspartnerin, die am Handlungsort der Novelle (Sumiswald) aufwuchs.

Viele hatten das „Vergnügen“ in ihrer Schulzeit diese Novelle zu lesen. Mit mehr oder weniger Begeisterung (die ich nachvollziehen kann). Interessant für mich ist die Tatsache, dass das Thema der Schwarzen Spinne wegen seiner Aktualität immer wieder aufgegriffen wird. (z.B.: Als „Nachspiel“ zur Katastrophe vonSchweizerhalle entstand im Jahr 1983 ein Film von Mark Rissi. Er griff das Thema der Novelle auf und adaptierte es an der aktuellen Situation). Man trifft die Schwarze Spinne oft auch an den Freilicht Theater Aufführungen an. Die Inszenierung lehnt sich dann stark an der Novelle an.

Ja und nun habe wir in Europa diese Corona Pandemie, und schon jetzt (vor dem grossen Sturm) fallen mir parallelen zu dieser Novelle aus dem Jahr 1842 auf: Mistrauen, Fremde als Sündenböcke, Fremde die das Böse in eine heile Welt bringen. Sei es Pest, sei es ein Virus, das Verhaltensmuster der Menschen ändert sich nicht. Auch über Jahrhunderte.

Ich persönlich habe den Eindruck, dass der Schriftsteller Albert Bitzius (Pseudonym: Jeremias Gotthelf) als Theologe/Pfarrer sein berufliches aber auch privates Umfeld sehr genau beobachtete.  Er kannte seine „Pappenheimer“ mit all ihren Stärken und Schwächen.

The day before yesterday, while cleaning up in my office, I came across this book with the novella "The Black Spider". What the f... just now I thought, since we are in a state of emergency because of this Corona virus. Whether it's coincidence or providence, let's leave it for now. The fact is that this novel has been with me for more than 40 years. Be it my first literary work, be it the legendary open-air performance of 1988 in Trachselwald (with the actress Barbara Sukowa), be it the round wooden table mentioned in the novella which is located in the restaurant Bären zu Sumiswald (I can only recommend the restaurant) or be it my life partner who grew up at the place of action of the novella (Sumiswald).

Many had the "pleasure" of reading this novella in their school days. With more or less enthusiasm (which I can understand). Interesting for me is the fact that the subject of the Black Spider is taken up again and again because of its topicality. (for example: As an "epilogue" to the catastropheof Schweizerhalle a film by Mark Rissi was made in 1983. He took up the theme of the novella and adapted it to the current situation). The Black Spider is also often seen at open-air theatre performances. The staging is then closely related to the novella.

Yes, and now we have this corona pandemic in Europe, and already now (before the big storm) I notice parallels to this novella from 1842: mistrust, strangers as scapegoats, strangers who bring evil into a healthy world. Be it plague or a virus, the behaviour pattern of the people does not change. Even over centuries.

I personally have the impression that Albert Bitzius (pseudonym: JeremiasGotthelf) as theologian/pastor observed his professional but also private environment very closely.  He knew his peers with all their strengths and weaknesses.
